Holy Ghost Preparatory School Welcomes a New President, Gregory J. Geruson

BENSALEM, PA April 20, 2015: Holy Ghost Preparatory School announced today that Fr. James P. McCloskey will step down as President of the renowned Spiritan institution effective July 1st, to be succeeded by HGP alumnus and distinguished administrator and educator Gregory J. Geruson, who will become the first lay-president in the 118-year history of the all-boys school.

Fr. McCloskey, who served as headmaster from 1990 to 2002 and as president for the last two years, will complete his service to the school in June and embark on a program of advanced biblical study with the University of Notre Dame in Jerusalem. Geruson, who served as assistant headmaster under Fr. McCloskey from 1991-2001 and as vice president of institutional advancement from 2001-2004, was named President following a comprehensive selection process led by the Board with the assistance of Fr. McCloskey.

Since 2004, Geruson has served as vice president for development and alumni relations at Saint Joseph’s University, and most recently as vice president of the Healey Education Foundation. Geruson is a 1979 alumnus of HGP, and a graduate of La Salle University and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. An accomplished fundraiser and manager, he is widely recognized as a thought leader in Catholic education, and he is an eleven-time presenter at the National Catholic Educational Association Conference.

“I am privileged to have this opportunity to return home to Holy Ghost Prep,” Geruson said. “Holy Ghost is a remarkable school that forms the hearts and minds of the next generation of our leaders – and does so in our Spiritan tradition. I look forward to working with parents, faculty, alumni, and the board to build an even brighter future for our school.”

“As I embark on this new life journey, I am confident that Holy Ghost Prep is in good hands,” said Fr. McCloskey. “I have worked with Greg for many years and personally know that he is an enormously talented educator who is committed to the Spiritan mission that makes Holy Ghost such an outstanding educational institution. I’ve been privileged to serve here, and I look forward to the next chapter of my career knowing that the future of Holy Ghost is in very bright indeed.”

“Greg Geruson is no stranger to Holy Ghost Prep, and his distinguished career as an educator and administrator make him an ideal choice to serve as our next president,” said Anthony R. Geonnotti Jr., Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
